A Study on the Information Sources and Knowledges about Health in Korean Rural Area(Ⅱ)

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was conducted to find the information sources and the degree of understanding on the health problems in Korean rural areas. Samples were selected 1, 767 households in Jeonbug Province and investigated during July 16 through to 28, 1979.
The major findings obtained are as follows :
1. General characteristics of housewives surveyed
1) Mean age of housewives are 40.2+11.3 years.
2) 38.4 % of total housewives surveyed are illerate, 42 % complete primary school, and Only 20.0% graduate middle school or more.
3) Almost half(51.2%) of E.ouselolds ccrld le rcgare(d ecercmicelly as rriddle class, 27% lower class and 21.8% upper class by 1:he relative evalution within study area.
4) The ownership of T, V, set was counted 68.4%, and tl´.at of radio was 79.0%.
5) 34.2% of farm households bad a newspaper including weekly, and 14.1 % had a monthly magazine regulary.
2. Knowledge on Health Problem
1) Average score on activities of health center(Family Planing, MCH, vaccinatier, medical aid program and sanitation program etc) were 32.1 17. 0, the range of score obtained by area were 26.0±15.1 to 38.2±17.1.
2) Average score of Contraceptive method was 1.5.9±11.2, especially low score showed in plain area as 12.9±10.1.
3) Average score of communicate disease control program was 23.2±6.5 the highest score showed in suburban area as 29.2±4.2, and tl.e lowest score slowed in plain area as 18.5±14.5.
4) Average score of degercra.tive discases(hypertersior, diabetes etc,) was 38.6±15.8. the highest score showed in suburban Health project area, as 41.5±21.0 mountainous area 39.2±13.0, plain area 37.3±16.5 and suburban 36.8±14.4.
3. Information Sources of Health
1) Major sources of information on health problem were neighbor, friend, health center, health worker, ri-chief, radio and T, V. in order.
2) 57.0% of housewives didn´t know program of primary care in health center, major
information sources were health center and health worker.
3) Major sources of information on Present Medical Kid Program were neighbor, friend, 12.i-chief, Health Center and health worker in order.
4) Major sources of information on Medical Insurance program were neighbor, friend, T, V. radio in order.
5) Knowledges on health stowed significant correlationship with exposure of information sources on health.
